Linde Gas Singapore wins long term on-site gases supply contract with Evonik Methionine SEA Pte Ltd
Company will invest in a new integrated industrial gases plant to support Evonik’s new world-scale methionine plant in Singapore
Singapore – 24 August 2012: Linde Gas Singapore Pte Ltd, a member of The Linde Group, announced that it had been awarded a major long term industrial gases supply contract by Evonik Methionine SEA Pte Ltd, which has selected Jurong Island as the site for its fifth world-scale methionine production plant ‘Me5’.
Evonik Methionine SEA is part of Evonik Industries, the creative industrial group from Germany and a world-leading specialty chemicals company. Evonik’s new production complex in Singapore will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 metric tons of DL-methionine, when it comes on stream in 2014.
To meet the industrial gases feedstock requirements of Evonik’s new plant, Linde Gas Singapore will be building an integrated plant on-site producing various industrial gases for Me5. Linde’s new plant will be very energy efficient as well as environmentally friendly, as it is able to fully utilise waste gas streams from the production process and convert them into useful products, thereby avoiding the venting of waste gases such as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Ms Lim Seck Luan, Managing Director of Linde Gas Singapore said, "We are delighted to be selected as the long term exclusive gases partner of Evonik for their flagship Singapore plant. Although other options for supply of industrial gases are readily available on Jurong Island, Evonik has decided to partner with Linde. This is a clear endorsement of Linde’s technological capabilities and ability to deliver reliable and cost-competitive industrial gas solutions. Linde Gas Singapore is committed to continue to invest alongside our valued customers to ensure we are well-positioned to support them in their expansion plans."
Mr Peter Meinshausen, Regional President of Evonik South East Asia, Australia & New Zealand, said, "Evonik already works with The Linde Group in several facilities around the world, and we are very glad to extend our partnership with Linde in Singapore. Our new facility on Jurong Island is our second production plant in Singapore. I am pleased that we have reached this agreement with Linde and look forward to a very successful long-term partnership here."
Linde has been steadily expanding its operations in Singapore over the past several years. The addition of Linde’s new integrated gas plant, which will use natural gas as a feedstock to produce various industrial gases, represents a further diversification in the types of feedstock which the company utilises in its existing portfolio of production assets in Singapore. Linde Gas Singapore also intends to establish multi-sourced industrial gases grids on Jurong Island to deliver various gases to its customers reliably and in a cost-effective manner.
